2024 AGM report and New Ferry Butterfly Park visit
Our 2024 AGM took place in May, and was preceded by a special tour of the New Ferry Butterfly Farm.
On 14th May, we held our AGM at the Bridge Inn in Port Sunlight. The meeting was preceded by a very enjoyable and informative tour of New Ferry Butterfly Park.
In his report, Group Chair Jonathan Clarke highlighted key group activities during the year. These included:
- Supporting hedge planting at Countess of Chester Country Park with money received from donations
- Participating in the Warrington Local Plan Examination and helping reduce the amount of Green Belt to be taken for warehousing
- Raising concerns around significant planning issues such as the Danes Moss proposal for around 1,000 dwellings and related infrastructure on peatland
- Partnering with CPRE Lancashire to respond to the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework consultation, helping reduce the amount of Green Belt taken for development, and to comment on the Liverpool City region
- Working with the Sandstone Ridge Trust to help get the Ridge approved as a National Landscape.
Alongside the official business of the meeting, Jackie Copley, Planning Director at CPRE Lancashire, provided an update on the Wirral Local Plan. This also included the very significant work that CPRE put in with the Wirral Greenspace Alliance to save a range of Green Belt sites from unsuitable housing development.
We were also pleased to welcome national CPRE Chief Executive, Roger Mortlake, who gave us an overview of national priorities and plans.
